Songs and Memories

I love how you can listen to a song, and it will take you to a certain place. There are so many songs that I listen to, and I am immediately transported to another place. I can picture it plainly.

Here are just a few of those songs:

     1. Songs that take me back to movies that we watched together:

          a. This is where I belong from the movie Spirit -- This takes me back to when the boys were little. We went as a family to see this movie at the cute Wellsboro theater...with Grandpa and Grandma Smith as well.

          b. Insensitive by Jann Arden  --  We saw the movie Bed of Roses when we were first married. We loved that movie a lot. This song was on that movie. This song always takes us back to that time we watched this movie. By the way, Bed of Roses is one of the best movies.

          c. Cry by Mandy Moore on movie A Walk to Remember  --  This is one of our favorite movies. We watched this when we were first married as well. I recommend this movie as well. It is a tear-jerker.

          d. Only Hope by Mandy Moore on movie A Walk to Remember  --  This is the same as the above movie.

          e. Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship on the movie Mannequin  --  We love this movie. We saw this when we were dating and also when we were married.

     2. Songs that take me back to road trips:

          a. Lost in your eyes by Debbie Gibson --  I listened to this song and the others from the cassette whenever I would travel to see Michael the summer we were apart from each other when we were dating. I knew this album inside and out.

          b. Baby Baby by Amy Grant --  This reminds me of the many trips from Florida to Pennsylvania that Michael and I made. We listened to this cassette tape over and over and over again.

          c. Go West Young Man by Michael W. Smith  --  We also listened to this cassette tape on those trips from Florida to Pennsylvania. I can sing all of the songs on the album as well.

          d. Eye of the Tiger from Rocky IV  --  We also listened to this song from the Rocky IV cassette tape on our trips from Florida to Pennsylvania. We loved the Eye of the Tiger song a lot. We still love this.

     3. Songs from when Michael and I were dating:

          a. Everything I Do I Do It For You by Bryan Adams on the movie Robinhood  --  This song means the most to us because it is OUR song. This song was on our first date movie (Robinhood). We also sang this song to each other at our wedding. It still remains special every time we hear it.

          b. I'll be there for you by Bon Jovi  --  We listened to this song when we were dating. We usually listened to this song while driving around Pensacola. Those were the days.

          c. I'll Be There by Escape Club  --  We always listened to this song when we were crossing the Pensacola Beach bridge...in the Nissan or the Malibu. I picture that bridge every time I hear this song.

          d. Faithfully by Journey  --  We also listened to this song around Pensacola.

          e. Separate Ways by Journey  --  We also listened to this song around Pensacola. It just reminds me of our life there when we were first married.

          f. Danger Zone from the movie Top Gun  --  We listened to this song a lot around Pensacola. Of course, we saw the Blue Angels in Pensacola once. I think of being on the beach in Pensacola when I hear this song.

          g. You're the Inspiration by Chicago  --  We listened to this all of the time together...at home, in the car, anywhere.

          h. Black Velvet by Alannah Myles   --  We would always listen to this song when we would play pool together...which was quite often. This song takes me right back to all of those pool games.

          i. Alone by Heart  --  This is just another of the songs we listened to all of the time. There is just something about the 80's music.

          j. Honestly and All of Me by Striper  --  These two songs are very special...because they were songs we listened to together before we even had our first date. Our first date was on a Sunday, and on Saturday night Michael surprised me and picked me and Tammy up for a "joyride" in his Chevy Malibu. These two songs are the songs that he played. (these songs were supposed to be sung in our wedding, but the person who was to sing them was 9 months pregnant and not able to do it)

     4. Songs that have unique memories:

          a. He is by Aaron Jeoffrey  --  This song takes me back to our workout days in our basement in Wellsboro. We always listened to this album.

          b. You're So Good To Me by the Beach Boys  --  One time Michael and I had a disagreement when we were first married, at our apartment in Pensacola. I don't even remember what the disagreement was about, but I do remember that Michael played this song over and over and over again while he was sitting in the tan/gold chair and I was leaning against him sitting on the hassock. When I hear this song still, I hear it playing over and over and over again.

          c. Stay the Night by Chicago  --  We listened to this Chicago album all of the time. When we first got married this song was so true. We were so glad to finally be able to "Stay the Night" together.

          d. Jesus Saves by Greg Long  --  When the boys were little I used to listen to this song over and over again while they were jumping off the stairs in the dining room. I can still picture them in their underware and a cape on...jumping off the stairs. In many of our home videos, you can hear this song playing in the background.

          e. Christmas Don't Be Late Alvin and the Chipmunks by Jaci Velasquez  --  From the time the boys were little this is the song we always played when we put up our Christmas tree. It always takes me back to those times when the boys were little...and Christmas was so EXCITING to them.

          f. Heaven's Heart by Michelle Tumes  --  This song takes me back to playing on the back porch with the boys at the Blossburg house. Anytime we played out there, I would play this album. When I hear this I am transported to those wonderful days.

          g. Do They See Jesus In Me by Joy Williams  --  We listened to this song and this album over and over and over again when Michael built the bookshelves in the boys' room in Blossburg. That was a great shelving system. We had a lot of books...believe me.

          h. I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me  --  This song always takes me back to Michael's dad's death and funeral...this song was played at his funeral with bunches of photos of him throughout his life. This song really takes me back to both of our dad's deaths. It is such a moving song.

          i. She's Like the Wind by Patrick Swayze from the movie Dirty Dancing  --  This has always been one of my favorite songs. It takes me back to so many things...I really can't nail one thing down. I would listen to this song when I would go to the beach by myself in Pensacola. We would listen to this song together while driving around Pensacola. I would listen to this song when I was cleaning the house. I listened to it all of the time.

          j. The Reason by Hoobastank  --  I love to listen to this song with my headphones on. Michael and I both love this song a lot.
