Food for Thought

Kids are so great. I love their energy...I love their laughter...and I love their sense of humor. I also love how real they are.

My boys remind me to have fun everyday...no, they don't tell me to have fun...they just are fun. When they go do something fun, they just have fun doing it. They don't think about anything else.

My boys remind me to never stop learning. They are constantly trying something new and learning from it.

My boys remind me that anything is possible. This is one area that I am really hard on myself. I doubt myself too much...I don't have confidence in myself.

My boys remind me to laugh loudy...a deep belly laugh. I love to hear them laugh. They laugh so loudly that sometimes I have to tell them to tone it down a bit. I love that!!

Saying "I'm Sorry"

Saying "I'm sorry" is not always the easiest thing to do. It is hard to admit when you are wrong. I think it is so important though. I think that it is really important for our kids to hear us apologize to them when we have wronged them.

I have always tried to do this. I have made many mistakes as a mom. There have been many times that I have blamed the wrong child for something or when I have scolded them for something I thought they didn't do that they were supposed to do. I have always tried to apologize to my boys when I know that I have been wrong.

It is important to also teach our children to learn how to say "I'm sorry" properly. There are four steps that are important. We need to teach them to say...
  1. "I'm sorry for. . ."
  2. "This is wrong because. . ."
  3. "In the future, I will. . ."
  4. "Will you forgive me?"

Unconditional Love

There is no greater example of unconditional love than that of God's love toward us. It is so important to love our children with this same kind of unconditional love. Michael and I have tried to love our boys this way, and to also let them know that we will always love them unconditionally.
  • We are committed to you because you are our son
  • We may not always like what you do, but we will always love you and care about your well-being
  • We will love you no matter what

Food for Thought:...the wise thing to do

This is a new category for me...to discuss things that we need to think about. My first topic is from a book I read many years ago. The book is The Best Question Ever by Andy Stanley. I love his books.

Basically, the idea is that in every situation in life, when you question what you should do, ask the question, "What is the wise thing to do?" I think that in many cases people would make a different decision if they were to ask that question. I am passing this on to the boys. I really think that if we all asked this question before making a decision, we would change our lives.
