My Dad

As you know, my dad is very sick right now with Stage 4 cancer. It does not look good for him right now. He is really going downhill fast. He is constantly on my mind. Today I was remembering some of the things he told us on Sunday about his childhood. They bring a smile to my face during this most difficult time.

1.  He used to dip his peanut butter and jelly sandwich into milk and then ring it out before eating it.

2. He had a group of neighbor friends that he hung out with a lot. One time the group was hanging out while their mothers had a Ladies Aid Meeting. He remembers Larry Edwards, Charles Davies, and Dick Alexander being there. Somehow Dick Alexander lit a candle up on a high shelf in the shed. All of the kids then left the shed and forgot about the candle still burning, and they burned the shed down. Dad got a scolding from his dad.

3. He and Larry Edwards used to play in the woods of Larry's uncle's house a lot. They played with their toy trucks a lot.

This one is not from childhood, but it is a good memory to remember.

-Dad was a top rebounder in college...even though he is 5'8". He once scored 50 points in one game, and there were no 3-pointers at that time. His favorite spot to shoot from was "wing-left side." He was inducted into the "Penn State Hall of Fame."

  1. I know the boys and you greatly enjoyed our time with your dad on Sunday as we asked him about some of his favorite childhood memories. I'm glad we were able to share that moment together with him.
