For 9 years, we lived just around the corner from Grandma. She loved us being so close to her. The boys and I would walk down to her house 2-3 times a week. We often went out to eat with her or to the mall with her. She was one of my best friends. I loved to be with her...we laughed SO much together. I will never forget the time she came to the door without her teeth in her mouth. I had never really seen her like that. She invited the boys and I into the house, we sat down, and she proceeded to have a conversation with me...without her teeth. After about 10 minutes of biting my cheeks to keep from laughing, I started laughing, and told her that it was really hard to have a conversation with her without her teeth in her mouth. I told her that I had just never seen her like that. She laughed with me and then went to put her teeth in her mouth. We laughed and laughed when she came back out to finish our conversation. To this day, I can still remember this so clearly.
I miss my grandma so much. It was such a blessing to live so close to her. I would go back and do it again if I could. She was very dear to me.
I do not know what will happen to my dad. I do know that whenever God does call him home, he will have a wonderful reunion with his mom...my wonderful grandma.
Amy, I was sorry to hear about your dad. The physical loss is the hardest. Knowing that you will not see him until that appointed time when God calls each of us home. What a day that will be! We'll see our loved ones again! I love you.
ReplyDeleteI had just posted this and then got a call that my dad had taken a turn for the worse and was barely aware anymore. I went to see him quickly, and showed him this post. It took him forever to recognize who was in the photo, but finally he did. When mom said, "That is your mom, isn't it." He said, "Yes, most definitely." Mom then proceeded to read the post to him about Grandma Joseph and her teeth. When she was finished, there was a big smile on my dad's face. That was priceless.
