     I bought this hat at Target a couple of weeks ago. I can't wait to wear it (maybe for July 4th).

    The boys found this quarter in the car they are working on--I was hoping that they would find more though.

Reading Through the Bible

I am so proud of the boys. They both finished reading through the entire Bible in the spring of this year. This was a goal that we set for them about 3 years ago, and they stuck with it and accomplished it. Now, they are trying to learn one thing every day from what they read. They both like Psalms best, because they feel it is so relevant to today.

How to make people like you

I love books written by Dale Carnegie. I have read all of his older books. I just requested this newer book from the Library, and I am very interested to read this one regarding the Digital Age. (I think we are really a mess as a society because of this Digital Age)

From his older book, I wrote down 6 principles he gives to make people like you:

1. Become genuinely interested in other people
2. Smile
3. Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language
4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves
5. Talk in terms of the other person's interests
6. Make the other person feel important...and do it sincerely

The funny thing is...I have been talking lately about these things to the boys. Just yesterday, when we were at Trader Joe's, the checkout lady asked if we had any special plans for July 4th. I could have just said "not really." But, I went on to say that the boys would be working on a project car with their dad. She then asked what kind of car. Jar told her a Maverick. Then two other guys (probably college age) chimed in on the conversation. That made the boys feel really good.

So, on the way home, I discussed with them the importance of finding a topic to talk about that other people are interested in discussing. I also told them the importance of being friendly and opening up the conversation to more than just a "yes" or "no" answer. I then also talked about the importance of remembering a person's name and speaking it often. I love using everyday moments as teaching opportunities.

Favorite Product

My favorite product this week is eye shadow. I am really picky about eye shadow. I don't like really glittery eye shadow, and I don't like eye shadows that just wear away after a short time. The Naked 1 and 2 eye shadows are my favorite. They go on easy, you don't have to use much product, and they last all day long.

Song of the Week: Someone Like You

Girl Meets World

Last night we watched the Pilot episode of Girl Meets World. Michael and I loved Boy Meets World back in the 90's, so we were excited to watch it. It was funny...we really enjoyed it. So far though, it does not match up to the original. I hope it gets better with time. Cory and Topanga have not changed though. Seeing Cory took me right back to Boy Meets World. I think the boys will really like it though, because it seems more modern to them.

Canada Trip: Day 3 & 4

Here is a continuation of our trip:

D A Y   T H R E E:

     We headed to downtown Vancouver BC on Monday, June 23. I did not realize how large Vancouver was. It was way too busy for me. I did not like it at all. We did not even get out of the truck--we just drove to see the sights around downtown. We also did not realize how heavily Asian populated Vancouver is. Her is what we saw:

• downtown business district
• Canada Place (where the cruise ships are)
• Chinatown (very heavily populated homeless area--pretty scary and sad)
• Gastown (more ritzy section of town with nice restaurants and shops and cobbled streets)
• Robson Street (shopping and restaurants--where you might see celebrities)
• Granville Island (shops and restaurants located on Granville Island under the Granville Bridge)
• Stanley Park

     We were exhausted after the crazy downtown driving (Michael especially, since he was driving). We decided to eat out and have a really nice meal after driving around Vancouver all day. We went to Milestones. I would compare it to a Macaroni Grill or even just a little nicer. We all had a really good meal. I had a California Spring Salad--delicious; Michael had steak and mashed potatoes (shocker, I know); Cam and Jar both had seafood linguine; and we all split sweet and spicy chicken wings.

     We then did just a little shopping in the plaza near our campground. We picked up a few groceries at Whole Foods. We then went back to the camper to relax. We were really glad to be out of the "mess" of the city. We watched Jack, the Giant Slayer.

We really thought Vancouver looked like Korea--there were lots of Asian shops and restaurants

there were tons of fancy cars in Vancouver--we saw Aston Martin, Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini to name a few--this is a Lamborghini

D A Y   F O U R:

     Michael did some office work all morning, and then at noon we headed to Ft. Langley (called the "Birthplace of BC" and also a fur trade post of the Hudson Bay Company). It was a cute small town with the fort, some historical sites, some shops, and a few restaurants. We bought some candy at the candy shop and some pastries at a bakery/bookstore for the next day. We stopped at a cute Art and Cultural Cafe and had bison sandwiches (tasted like a cross between ham and turkey). It was a relaxing day. We headed back to the camper and watched movies and read the rest of the evening.
