Book Recommendation

Anyone who knows me really well knows that I love to organize. I get a 'high' on throwing things away or giving them away. I get a 'high' on helping other people get rid of stuff and making their lives better by simplifying their lives. We all need to get rid of 'stuff' and make room for things in our life that really matter.

Here is what I took away from the book:
  1. Take a look at your life and all the stuff in it to determine if 'said stuff' is making your life better or derailing it. 'Said stuff' can be anything that consumes your time or demands your devotion (houses, cars, furniture, clothes, toys--do you have so much stuff that it takes you forever to take care of that stuff and keep it clean or do you have such a large house that it takes too much for you to take care of; food--keep it simple and plan ahead; thoughts--this one is most difficult for me. I have to clean out my thoughts and make room for things that matter; relationships--only make room in your life for relationships that lift you up and make you better. And...make room for real relationships...not Facebook 'relationships'.; social media--I hate social media so much. It truly has messed up our relationships. I think everyone should really keep social media to a bare minimum...talk to people in real life.)
  2. Stuff was never meant to become a source of worry, fear, or obsession. (Matthew 6:25)

    Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
  3. The most basic purpose of stuff, then, is to meet our needs
  4. Discontentment comes from deciding that what God has given us isn't enough
  5. Too much stuff can lead to too much stress (this one is so true...when I get rid of things, I feel so free, like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders)
I recommend to everyone that you read this book. It really is a blessing.
