Perfect Health

When my dad died around 6 months ago, we questioned how this could have happened. My dad was seemingly the healthiest person we knew. For 20 years, he dabbled with the vegan diet. He spent a lot of years juicing. He also spent most of his lifetime doing a lot of walking. For the last 2-3 years of his life, he was really committed to the vegan diet. But, in doing so, he forgot to concentrate on getting adequate protein in his diet.

At his many doctor's appointments, we wanted the question answered, but whoever was with him always forgot to ask. He was gone so quickly (in 8 weeks) that we never really had a chance to find the answer to that question. There were a few articles that I read online that just briefly talked about the idea that protein deficiency can cause disease.

Just recently, I read the book Perfect Health Diet by Paul Jaminet. He finally hit on the subject, and I think answered for me that question I had been wondering about my dad. Did he get liver cancer because he was protein deficient? I very much think that the protein deficiency along with a few other things could definitely have caused liver cancer. Dr. Paul Jaminet says in his book:

"In protein deficiency, proteins are lost first from the liver and visceral organs such as the kidneys and gut. The liver loses up to 40% of its proteins on a protein-deficient diet. In rats, a rat on a 5% protein diet died. They lacked sufficient liver function to cope with the toxin."

We will never really know what caused liver cancer in such a seemingly healthy person. But, I do know that our bodies cannot function without protein.
