Glimpse of my Weekend

This was a tough weekend. My sister flew in to see my dad, who is not doing well right now. We spent the weekend enjoying some good times, but mostly it was spent on dealing with some difficult things.

All of us kids met together, with my mom and dad, to go over financial things and tough decisions regarding possible end of life. This was so difficult to do. It is so hard to talk about end of life with someone who's life may be near the end. I never realized how hard this would be. I thought that my dad handled it really well though.

We needed to go through financial things with my mom, because she has never had a hand in the finances or making decisions that involve the finances. I made up a quick budget, and we also went through filing systems and so on with my mom.

We had to set up end of life paperwork with my dad...things like who will make medical decisions if my dad becomes incoherent. I am really glad that we were able to get these things done now before it could be too late. This is a relief to Mom as well. He may end up getting better, which would be a blessing and a miracle, but at least we know that we did the right thing if he doesn't.
