Worry

This topic is tough. So many of us worry. We worry about whether or not we can pay the bills, or whether we will get sick, or whether we will be safe when we travel, or whether we will lose a loved one, or whether our kids will be safe, job security, finding a new job, where to live, what will I do for a living...the list goes on and on.

My biggest worry has always been the safety of my boys and safety as we/they travel. I worry about being safe in a strange location and being safe when Michael may be gone.

It is so hard. I try not to, but it just is not always that easy.

To tell someone else not to worry; that is even more difficult.

With my dad going through this hard time with cancer, it is hard to tell my mom not to worry. It is hard to let her know that it will be ok.

Some verses that I have found helpful whenever I am anxious are:

Matthew 6:25-27  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?"
Matthew 6:34  Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
Matthew 11:28-30  "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Luke 12:25 "And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his  span of life?"
Philippians 4:6-7  "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
1 Peter 5:7 "casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."

Some quotes that I have found have also been helpful:

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.- Corrie Ten Boom
No one can pray and worry at the same time.- Max Lucado

Fear can paralyze us.

My favorite quote of all is:

Pray and let God worry!!! -- Martin Luther

The thing we must remember is that worry is a sin. Worry is the opposite of faith. Romans 14:23b says, "Whatsoever is not from faith is sin."

We need to give our problems to God. Let Him worry about them.

  1. Great post--our God is great and will carry all of life's burdens...if we only let Him.
