Life Lately

We have been busy here with school and work and projects around the house. Cam finished his winter classes and began his spring classes. He still has a 4.0 GPA. Jar has been busy with school papers and working a lot of 6 a.m. shifts. Michael has been busy at work...lots of meetings. I am always busy keeping up with everything at home.

Here is what has been happening around here lately:

...got a good book at the Library

...Michael and Jar went to the Jeep shop in Portland and then to a Korean BBQ place for lunch

...here is their view on the drive

...lunch at the Korean place

...I fell in love with this tree (it is a Magnolia)

...Cam ran some errands in town

...this is what he got as a treat to himself for finishing with A's in his two winter classes

...I buy three large bunches of bananas every week for the boys

...I made chicken thighs, mashed sweet potatoes, and roasted green beans. It was Yummo!

...this was my office for the day

...I got one of these this month as I usually do my school order in April. Not this year :(

...do you think Zena has enough treats?

...Jar doing some jump roping to get cardio

...tree down (we had the tree cut down)

...some new finds

...working on my garden journal

...the mess after they got the stump out

...new baskets for the laundry room

...homemade wash cloths for washing my face (my grandma used to make these)

...what's for dinner?

...the tree guy busted up the sump pump drain pipe, so Michael had to fix it

...Michael brought me home some daffodils

...I burned my hand pretty bad with boiling hot water (does not look bad here...more pictures to follow) It swelled up pretty good.

...Lily eating her treat beside me

...my hand two days later

...Michael doing yard work

...my hand four days after burning it

...finishing the yard work

...Jar and I made a homemade Korean dish for lunch

...a week after burning my hand

...Easter Sunday

...this was Grandma Joseph's iron that we took when she passed away. I don't know how long she had it when we took it, but it just died (we had it at least 12 years) Michael uses it daily. That is a good iron!

...this is my hand a week and two days after burning it (it is cracking and peeling now, so it hurts and itches)

...Michael and Jar are trying to figure out what size tire and rim to put on the Jeep, so they pulled the tire off the truck and leaned it against it to see what that looked like

...this is a week and three days after burning my hand. It has peeled fully, so now it is burning and itching. It should be fully healed soon now. The salve I am using is really working.

Other happenings around here:
  • we had some warmer weather (in the 70's)
  • I did some weeding outside
  • Michael and I watched The Same Kind of Different As Me (too slow of a movie, but it had a good message)

  • we all rode together to church in the truck for the first time in a long time
  • Michael and I watched a lot of Criminal Minds
  • Jar worked a lot of 6 a.m. shifts
  • Cam, Jar, and I went shopping...they both got shirts for Easter
  • Jar did so much jumping rope that he could barely walk
  • I did tons of laundry
  • Michael and I watched The Blacklist and The Good Doctor
  • Cam started his new spring classes
  • Jar had chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream at youth group (he normally does not eat sweets)
  • Michael and Cam went to breakfast at Roths

Easter 2018

Easter was really nice this year. We got up and went to the early Easter service. It was AWESOME! I certainly felt God's presence (got goosebumps a few times).

We had a big Easter brunch when we got home (eggs, German pancakes, bacon, European bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit tray, hash browns, orange danishes, and strawberry lemon cheesecake bars) as well as watched The Greatest Showman. It was a fun day.

We did not do Easter egg hunts or anything like that. The boys don't eat the candy, so there is no need to do that. We did buy the boys Easter shirts. Grandma brought them two bags of jerky and a bag of pistachios.

I joked about taking the boys' photo in front of our tree...ha ha (we had that taken down two weeks ago). It was a little sad because we did always take their photos there. We did find a bush on our way home from church to take some photos.

...Jar made the fruit platter

...here is the food that we had

...this actually bloomed the morning of Easter. I thought that was really cool!

Cheap Decor Change-Up

I was looking for a change in our master bathroom...that did not cost much. It has been the brown and gold for almost 12 years now; I was ready for a change. I found a new shower curtain and new rugs at Target for $25...it looks like a new bathroom. I love it!

On Sale

Ever since I can remember, I have been all about the deal I could get. I have always loved yard sales, thrift stores, Goodwill Stores, and the sales aisles. I have always used whatever coupons I could find. I love to get a good deal. But...sometimes it has become all about the deal. If it was on sale, I might still buy it even if I had 6 bottles of that same cleaner at home; even if I had 10 other pair of yoga pants at home.

In the past I have bought things for the house just because they were a good deal, not necessarily because I absolutely loved them and had a place for them. I am now saving the money until I have enough to buy what I really want (like living room and dining room furniture). I have learned the hard way that buying what is cheap or a really good deal does not make for a good buy all of the time.

Lately, I have become more about the minimal lifestyle. I am nearing 50, so I know what I like...I am using what I have now until I buy new stuff. It helps me not have to store as much stuff as well.

Just because something is on sale doesn't mean you have to buy it so you think you saved a bunch of money.
